The South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO) spearheads South Africa??s activities in the Square Kilometre Array Radio Telescope, commonly known as the SKA, in engineering, science and construction. SARAO is a National Facility managed by the National Research Foundation and incorporates radio astronomy instruments and programmes such as the MeerKAT telescope in the Karoo, the Hartebeesthoek Radio Astronomy Observatory (HartRAO) in Gauteng, the African Very Long Baseline Interferometry (AVN) programme in nine African countries as well as the associated human capital development and commercialisation endeavours.

The Occupational Health Practitioner is responsible for the provision, monitoring and maintenance of occupational health services which aims to promote and maintain the highest possible level of health among all employees and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
* Providing comprehensive occupational health services to staff and stakeholders.
* Conducting pre-employment, follow-up/periodic and exit and transfer medical examinations, audiometry, spirometry to employees to ensure compliance with occupational health and safety legislation and signing off.
* Conducting fitness declaration according to the medical standards and requirement for specified job, considering the requirements of the Labour Relation act.
* Liaising with and advice internal and external stakeholders to promote occupational health.
* Management of incapacity in line with applicable policy, standards and legislation.
* Conducting health risk assessment to establish risk exposure, risk profile and design and implement medical surveillance programme.
* Identifying and reporting of occupational injuries and diseases (COIDA).
* Management of clinic stock: ordering, dispensing and record keeping.
* Management of contractors of the occupational health clinic
* Management of clinic by managing and keeping up-to-date with new legal requirements and standards and communicating these to stakeholders.
* Development, reviewing and implementing Standard Operations Procedures to ensure compliance with legislation.
* Drafting and reviewing policies to ensure alignment with occupational health
* Establish and maintain accurate and effective Recording system
* Establish and maintain healthy and conducive environment
* Implementation, Coordination and Management of Procurements.

Key Requirements:
Qualification:

* Degree in Nursing specialisation in Occupational Health
* Registration with the South African Nursing Council (Must be a member in good standing)
* Registration with the South African Society of Occupational Health Nursing (Must be a member in good standing)
* Certificate in Audiometry
* Certificate in Spirometry
* Driver’s License Code 8/10 (Must be able operate a motor vehicle)
* Computer literate

Experience:
* 5 Years post registration experience in Occupational Health Care Practitioner
* 2 years team management experience (advantage)

* Occupational health legislation
* Occupational and Safety legislation
* Compensation of injuries and diseases legislation (COIDA)
* Vaccination protocols
* Medical examination (Baseline, follow ups and exit)
