Research and study opportunities

arrow CRC MSc AND PhD BURSARIES FOR 2023
The Centre for Radio Cosmology (CRC) at UWC is internationally recognised for its research in cosmology and galaxy evolution with MeerKAT, the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) and other telescopes (see astro.uwc.ac.za for further details). In 2022, the CRC research team includes 21 PhD/ MSc students and 11postdoctoral fellows. Postgraduate students at the CRC work in a friendly and highly active research environment, with support from postdoctoral researchers.

arrow SARAO E-Learning
The E-Learning platform offers online teaching and training material to universities in South Africa and across the continent, allowing for more academic institutions to participate in radio astronomy research. Pre-recorded lectures and presentation slides, hands-on tutorials on a range of topics that includes using MeerKAT public data, as well as problem sets and solutions are available.

The SA Research Chairs Initiative (SARChI) of the Department of Science and Technology and the National Research Foundation aims to strengthen science and engineering in SA by attracting and retaining excellence in research and innovation at South African universities. Five research chairs relevant to the SKA project are currently funded.
