3rd Big Data Africa School
Cape Town, 6 – 16 October 2019
The Big Data Africa School aims to introduce fundamental data science tools and techniques to talented young science and engineering graduates across a range of disciplines, who have an interest to develop their skills and knowledge in working efficiently on extremely large datasets in any research environment.
The school allows students to work on real-life data sets in the areas of astronomy / radio astronomy, health and sustainable agriculture focusing on some of the biggest scientific challenges facing the African continent.
Who can apply?
Only South African students and students from the 8 SKA Africa Partner countries will be considered
This includes Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia and Zambia.
Students currently undertaking a Master of Science degree in:
Astronomy / Astrophysics / Bioinformatics / Computational Biology / Computer Science/ Computer Engineering / Physics / Applied Mathematics
Students currently in the Final Year of their 4-year BSc Honours degree in:
Astronomy / Astrophysics / Bioinformatics / Computational Biology / Computer Science/ Computer Engineering / Physics / Applied Mathematics
Students currently in the Final Year of their BEng degree in:
Computer / Electronic / Software / Industrial Engineering
Intermediate to advanced programming skills will be advantageous to the applicants.
