SARAO invites bids for the continuation of the unified messaging system based on the Google GSuite Platform as well as Google Vault/Back up services and Google cloud storage services.

Google GSuite has been used in SARAO since the inception of the project in 2010. The solution has scaled with the growth of the organisation and has become a critical business application used for collaboration including calendar and resource management and document management specifically in the science, engineering and business process areas. Google GSuite supports document formats including spreadsheets, documents (including MS Word),
presentations, drawing, photo and video imagery. All of these services are delivered on top of the underlying Google Cloud storage platform, Google Drive, which is bundled with the licensing of the product.

Recently there have been changes in the Google GSuite licensing model which allows both a “pay as you go” and an “unlimited” usage model for the cloud storage, giving SARAO the flexibility to select the optimal options. The cloud platform enables a critical and secure global access to all of the above-mentioned services aligning well with the mode of the organisation, that being to host the global engineering project Square Kilometre Array Radio Telescope.

The bid has requirements to allow changes in the active license usage up to a limit of 520 licenses to accommodate organisational expansion and contraction over the period of the contract.

The services will be provided to all SARAO staff and qualifying contractors based at offices in Cape Town in the Western Cape, Johannesburg, Hartebeeshoek Radio Astronomy Observatory in Gauteng and the MeerKAT Radio Telescope site and Carnarvon in the Northern Cape as well as staff working remotely within South Africa and Internationally.
