The MeerKAT telescope requires clean uninterrupted power which is provided by three (3) Diesel (Dynamic) Rotary Uninterrupted Power Supply (DRUPS) systems. Without the DRUPS, the MeerKAT telescope will not be able to operate optimally as quality of power would deteriorate. The DRUPS equipment on the SKA site was commissioned in 2014, and is currently in operation. The running hours are –
- Ks1 Engine 1736 Stator 47703
- Ks 2 Engine 1450 Stator 48590
- Ks3 Engine 1656 Startor 48693
The System is monitored remotely by Euro-Diesel in Belgium, who notifies SARAO when there is an error on the system. An error code is generated and submitted to an accredited Euro-Diesel service provider that would be able to match the various error codes, with the corresponding type of maintenance required on the DRUPS.
