Explore our historic vehicles
One of the famous vehicles in the Carnarvon Museum is the Old Chevrolet hearse that once served
the community. It was used by the local church to transport coffins during funerals before
modern funeral cars existed.
The wooden canopy on the back was handmade by a local craftsman, making it a special part of
the town's history. This vehicle shows how people in the past relied on strong, simple
machines for important community events.
The museum also has old Trek Wagons that were used by early farmers and traveling families in
the Karoo. These wagons were pulled by oxen or horses and carried people, food, and supplies
across long distances.
Built from strong wood and iron, they had large wheels to handle rocky landscapes. Trek Wagons
represent a time when families moved slowly but steadily across the land, living a simple and
hardworking life.
