Project Champions and Biography

Rupert Spann and Neil Koopman

Meet at the University of Cape Town and between them they have worked in industry modelling financial software development in C/C++, Java, Python, BASIC, SAP. From designing harbour container terminals, software aviation tools and site management for construction writing software for industrial plant monitoring to home based automated systems and experience in the aviation sector. As well as in whaleshark monitoring, research doing meteorological site analysis for optical telescopes and brain sample preparation in a Neuroanatomy laboratory. Their interests are in human cognitive development and the processing of information and its application from a biological perspective into computing systems – that complement human cognitive abilities to a diverse range of problems.

Project Biography

Callosal is the change of data in 1 & 0’s to standardisation of the structure of information to allow the explorations and discovery of information, and data agnostic application development for interfacing and interaction to information.

Project Objectives

The objective of the project is to ensure cohesive and coherent information is used to make a decision to act on! Within large and small organisations data resides in different databases / data sources that lie within silos. These silos have an information structure that serves the needs of the system or department to achieve their objectives. But there is vast amounts of value and insights integrating this information outside(between) of the silos. The ability to discover this information and use/apply the information requires customisation to API, data wrangling and an application per system, per application to solve these needs. The objective of the project is the standardization of information representation that information from these data sources can be applied easily to wherever they are needed – from reporting to scheduling to AI.
