First Lego League Regional Robotics Competition in Carnarvon – Saturday, 2nd November 2024
On the 2nd of November 2024, Carnarvon High School will come alive with creativity and innovation as SARAO (South African Radio Astronomy Observatory) hosts the First Lego League (FLL) Regional Robotics Competition. This exciting event brings together young minds passionate about robotics, coding, and teamwork, offering them a unique platform to showcase their skills and problem-solving abilities.
The First Lego League is an internationally recognized competition designed to inspire the next generation of innovators by challenging participants to design, build, and program robots to perform tasks autonomously. Teams are also tasked with developing innovative solutions to real-world problems while working within the competition’s annual theme, which promotes STEM learning (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and fosters a spirit of curiosity and exploration.
SARAO’s involvement in the event highlights its commitment to promoting STEM education, especially in the Northern Cape, where the SKA (Square Kilometre Array) project is based. This competition will allow local schools and students to engage in hands-on learning and experience cutting-edge technology in a supportive environment. By nurturing these skills, SARAO aims to inspire the engineers and scientists of tomorrow.
Participants, teachers, parents, and STEM enthusiasts are encouraged to join the event to witness the energy and enthusiasm of these talented young innovators. It’s a fantastic opportunity to support the youth, celebrate their achievements, and learn more about the exciting world of robotics and its potential to shape the future.
