SARAO HOSTS MEERKAT @ 5 YEARS CONFERENCE IN 2024

SARAO celebrates five years since the launch of MeerKAT this year, and a range of celebrations have already taken place. Part of this celebration, marking five years since the first MeerKAT science paper, is the MeerKAT@5 conference being held in January 2024. The MeerKAT@5 conference, held from 20 to 23 February 2024 in Stellenbosch, Cape Town, celebrated the telescope’s achievements in the scientific, engineering, and human capacity development domains.

The conference will include invited and contributed presentations covering the following topics:

High-impact MeerKAT science results
The innovative engineering required to deliver the instrument
The history of the project and its broader impact
The outlook of the future of radio astronomy on the African continent
