FIRST LEGO LEAGUE MOROCCO OPEN INTERNATIONAL – TOXIC LEGOS (CARNARVON HIGH)

In November 2022, SARAO, in partnership with the Tshwane University of Technology and I-SET UNISA (Inspired towards Science Engineering and Technology), hosted the first, FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Lego League, for the Northern Cape
regional competition, in Carnarvon. (FIRST Lego League is a competition that challenges learners to think like scientists and engineers.)

The theme of this year’s competition was Super Powered. During the Super Powered (2022-2023) season, teams were required to choose and prepare solutions for real-world problem, and to build, test, and programme a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS technology to complete a set of missions with. Toxic Legos, a team from Carnarvon High School, were awarded the Robot Design award at the Northern Cape Provincial competition, and went through to the National level. The team participated at the National Championship, which took place at the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Johannesburg from the 06 December to 07 December 2022.

At the national competition the team won the Breakthrough Award, and as a result were invited to represent South Africa at the First Lego League Morocco Open International 2023, which took place in Marrakesh (Morocco) from 18 May 2023 to 21 May 2023.
