Matlou Mabokano appointed Head: Innovation Management at the South African Radio Astronomy Observatory
At the South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO) Commercialisation Office, we are excited to spotlight Matlou Mabokano, a seasoned leader in technology development and commercialisation, with over 15 years of experience in transforming cutting-edge technology into impactful solutions.
Matlou joined SARAO in August 2023, bringing with him an impressive track record of fostering innovation across both public and small business sectors. His journey includes roles in the mining sector and in supporting technopreneurs in their commercialisation efforts, particularly focusing on intellectual property management and growth strategies. On November 1, 2024, Matlou’s contributions were further recognised as he stepped into the role of HEAD: INNOVATION MANAGEMENT.
His expertise spans research and development, policy and legislation, strategy, and finance administration. A Chemical Engineering graduate from UCT, with a Master’s in Business Leadership from UNISA’s School of Business Leadership, Matlou is also an avid road and trail runner, balancing his professional ambitions with a passion for the outdoors.
