SARAO celebrates more than 50 Employee Recognition and Long Service Awardees
The Employee Recognition Awards were held for the first time this year since the inception of the National Research Foundation 25 years ago, and in celebration of this momentous milestone, homage was given to employees who excelled in their respective positions in different categories.
The categories in which SARAO employees were honoured are Research and Engineering Excellence, Service to the NRF, Administrative Excellence, Technical Excellence, Championing the NRF Values, Stakeholder Service, Management and Leadership Excellence; and the Business Unit/Team Award.
SARAO employees celebrated their colleagues in events held simultaneously in three locations, namely Cape Town, Johannesburg and Carnarvon on Monday, 9 November 2024, with each location being able to follow the proceedings at the other via a virtual link.
Cape Town employees converged at Pigalle Restaurant in Greenpoint, Cape Town, the Johannesburg employees gathered at the Premier Hotel in Midrand, Gauteng, while the Carnarvon-based employees were hosted at the Carnarvon High School Hall.
SARAO Managing Director, Pontsho Maruping, addressed the staff members and expressed her pride by saying that SARAO’s achievements would not be possible without its workforce.
“I know that the last few years have been tough, often with shifting priorities and constrained budgets, but I would however like to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you and for your outstanding contributions to the success of SARAO. Congratulations to our award recipients and thank you to our entire team for making SARAO such a great place to work. Today we honour a few people, but every day we appreciate and celebrate all your dedication, passion and commitment to excellence,” said Maruping.
It was a bumper year of celebration, with no less than 39 Long Service Award recipients being recognised for their dedication and service to SARAO, and 17 staff members being the inaugural recipients of the Employee Recognition Awards.
