Pumeza Shai – SKA-Mid Deputy Telescope Director
Pumeza Shai is the SKA-Mid Deputy Telescope Director. In this role, she works to establish and ultimately conduct the operations of the SKA-Mid Telescope. She also leads SARAO’s SKA-Mid Collaboration team, who works under the Agreement for Bilateral Collaboration and contributes to SKA-Mid Telescope operations, construction support, and business enabling teams.
She joins SARAO with over 16 years of experience in the South African and International engineering sectors. Most recently, she served at Armscor Dockyard as Manager of Mechanical Engineering and Acting Divisional Manager of Operations, where she led engineering operations supporting marine vessels and managed a large multidisciplinary team across mechanical, electrical, electronics, and construction functions.
Shai holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Hong Kong, as well as a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s in Engineering Management from the University of Pretoria.
