The National Research Foundation (NRF) supports and promotes research and human capital development through funding, the provision of National Research Facilities and science outreach platforms and programmes to the broader community in all fields of science and technology, including natural sciences, engineering, social sciences and humanities.

The South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO) spearheads South Africa􀂷s activities in the Square Kilometre Array Radio Telescope, commonly known as the SKA, in engineering, science and construction. SARAO is a National Facility managed by the National Research Foundation and incorporates radio astronomy instruments and programmes such as the MeerKAT telescope in the Karoo, the Hartebeesthoek Radio Astronomy Observatory (HartRAO) in Gauteng, the African Very Long Baseline Interferometry (AVN) programme in nine African countries as well as the associated human capital development and commercialisation endeavours.

To provide technical support and installation and maintenance on two-way radio network.

Key Responsibilities:

* Maintenance and Support of the two-way radio system and infrastructure
* Program frequencies on radio and high sites
* Perform installation and repairs on radio equipment
* Installations and removals of high site equipment.
* Record keeping of equipment failures, Inspections, available spares and service records.

Key Requirements:
Qualification:

* Qualified Radiotrician – Trade Test
* 3-years’ working experience as a Radiotrician within a 2-way Radio/ network /Repeater environment
* FM Principle certificate (advantageous)
* Computer literate (Microsoft word, Excel, PowerPoint)
* Basic electronics
* Project processes (documentation, configuration management and procurement.)

Experience:

* Low/Mid – band two-way radio system (mobiles, handheld, portables base-station and repeaters (e.g. TAIT, KURISUN, TPL, ENTEL, KIRICOM, etc)
* Maintenance and fault finding

Knowledge:

* EMI/RFI knowledge
* Radio Mast and Mobile Radio Communication
* Interpretation of Schematic diagrams
* Good general workshop practice
