Introduction to radio telescopes

The radio band is too wide to be covered effectively by a single telescope design, so a combination of single telescopes and aperture-synthesis interferometers are needed to detect and image radio astronomy sources. We present the basics of radio telescopes and radio interferometry, plus introduce the concepts that allow interferometers to determine the positions of compact radio sources with unmatched accuracy, making them exquisitely sensitive measures of radio sources.
