AfAS 2025, hosted by the University of South Africa at Emperor’s Palace in Gauteng from 23 to 28 March 2025, is an annual gathering celebrating Africa’s flourishing astronomy community, bringing together scientists, students, educators, and international partners to connect, share, and plan for the future of African astronomy. The program was a dynamic mix of scientific sessions, hands-on workshops, and inspiring discussions, with ample networking opportunities to connect with colleagues and friends from across Africa and beyond.

Members of the SARAO Schools Programme and the Northern Cape robotics team also exhibited at the conference, while SARAO participated in outreach activities and presentations to delegates.

Conference delegates were also hosted on a visit to the Hartebeesthoek Radio Astronomy Observatory on Wednesday, 26 March 2025 as part of SARAO’s offering at AfAS 2025. A group of 180 conference delegates made up of researchers from various African countries were hosted, and for many visitors it was their first visit to a radio astronomy research facility.
