Dr Nadeem Oozeer - Data Scientist - South African Radio Astronomy Observatory

Dr. Nadeem Oozeer is currently a data scientist with the South African Radio Astronomy Observatory, leading for the Square Kilometre Array (SKA). He completed his PhD in Astrophysics at the University of Mauritius in 2008 and joined a postdoc with the SKA Africa project.

Dr. Nadeem Oozeer started as a junior operations and commissioning scientist with SARAO in 2011 before becoming a senior commissioning scientist with the MeerKAT project. He has over a decade of international experience as a Data scientist since his PhD project. He has consulted international companies in developing their data-driven companies with intensive skills and knowledge in machine learning, data science, product management, Agile methodologies, and software engineering.

Dr. Nadeem has a thorough understanding of business, data strategy and human capital development. He has supervised and managed graduate, post-graduate doctorate students, as well as staff within our organisation.

He has initiated, managed and led many first-of-its-kind data science workshops on the African continent, culminating in driving millions of rands from international funders to Africa. His major areas of interests are: Data Science, Radio galaxies, Galaxy clusters, Radio Frequency Interference, Human Capacity Development.
